I had the pleasure of teaching Brian for twelve years and he became not only a very accomplished pianist but also a good friend. He had studied the piano at his boarding school but had an unfortunate disagreement with his teacher and turned his attention to the clarinet instead.
He came to me at the recommendation of a mutual friend who also studies with me, and once Brian had got used to my piano, which was somewhat different to the historic piano he had at home, he became a very accomplished and knowledgeable musician.
His repertoire ranged from Bach to Brahms and he became one of the finest performers at the informal concerts at my house. We shall all miss him greatly.
